Well It has been 15 days now since I have moved to Oakland. I think I like it so far. I found an amazing studio apartment that has a kitchen living room and a bedroom! And I only pay $680 a month, that's a steal here in Oakland. I just got done painting it and decorating it. I got tired of having an obstacle course in my house so I decided to unpack. I live in a small community called the lake Merritt district. The streets are lined with cute shops, yoga studios, coffee shops, fruit stands. There is a unique blend of people consisting of hippies, hipsters, punks,soccer moms and yuppies. (You can Google hipsters if you are unfamiliar with the term.
I work in the city at a hotel called the Pickwick. Most of the employees there are Asian, so needless to say I have learned how to speak Asian, for example tree=three jowan=Joanna peekweek=Pickwick and so on. I take the Bart in every day which takes me 14 minutes.
I have a few friends that lived over here before I got here and my boyfriend moved to Alameda (Thats a town about ten minutes away) We spend most of our time at book stores and coffee shops. Once I get settled I plan on joining a gym and yes joining a pilates class, I also will be joining a beginning drawing class. I am excited and scared at the same time as to what moving here will bring, but hey I have faced worse things.
